Lost Marbles.......

While clearing things out of the art studio I found this one lone marble at the bottom of container that was holding brushes.  The marbles of the world have their own histories as the are misplaced, lost, or intentionally put aside for some reason.  I have picked up marbles in the garden, driveways, and in my parents home in the crawl space next to the water heater.

My collection is a meager one in number compared to others that I know, but I prize every one that I have.

The newly found blue marble is now at home in the treasure chest (jar) of marbles with a glass lid covering it and protecting it from the elements. Some of the marbles in the jar are ones that I found in my parents home which were mine when I was a kid. The cat eye marbles were bought at the Robinson's Dime Store in Osceola, Iowa. All the other are found items as I walk through life. The photo itself was best photographed under the lights of the dining room light fixture.  There is no sunshine today.

I think each of us loves marbles. Another blog friend earlier this week blogged about her little granddaughter "gifting" her a treasured marble. Your photo is beautiful. We have found a lot of small toys etc. in the dirt around our current home but no marbles to date. Very rainy in GA today. Hope you guys are safe.

Such nice sharp focus on your photos! I love old marbles....such a fun thing to collect! There are some pricey ones out there I've seen at auctions...and some serious collectors!

I know you have great memories associated with those marbles. I remember my big brother and the neighbor boys playing marbles.

When I saw your marbles before I wished that I had never discarded mine, or whatever happened to them. I suppose I could start again, though the memories wouldn't be the same.

Thank you, Larry, for your kind comment. I love the lighting on your marble photo. What fun we used to have with marbles, playing, choosing, swapping etc. My father made us a grooved marble slide, which ran down over the stair carpet. I had a particular favourite - predominantly swirls of cobalt blue with touches of white. I wonder if it is still here somewhere ...
