Remembering Spring......

I will be off the blogs for ten days.  If I happen to post something it will not be on a regular basis. We both are fine and will tell you later about our little adventure.

All Aboard.......

All the colors make it look like a lot of fun. The roof shapes match the roof on the ticket booth.

John Deere Day.......

I share the photo of farmers getting the crop out of the field. These two combines and a wagon were used to clear this soybean field.  I took the photo through my truck window and it isn't so well composed.  I wanted to be sure that a blog friend of mine in Australia could see it  Her husband and her, farm therer and she is always sharing the John Deere machinery that they are using.

My city of Ankeny has one of the plants in Iowa that make various kinds of equipment.  I know we have equipment made here that is shipped to China to help them pick cotton. The plant sends a couple of men with them to help set up the equipment and teach them how to use it. The story is told that they live in tents while out in the fields to monitor the machinery. People from all around out city drive here to work at the plant.

Front Yard Blooms......

I did get the grass mowed yesterday and it isn't shaggy anymore. The flowers keep getting brighter but we had 26 degrees F. so they may start to fade.

Free Food.......

A sparrow and a starling are enjoying the seed.  I actually filled the feeder the day before but not one came to eat.  Today they are catching up on the food. The cold air should make them pretty hungry.

Weather Related....

Eventually it will just sag and fade into the ground. It will have rebuilt through the summer its energy and will be  ready to sprout out again in early spring.

A Fall Surprise.......

Late afternoon I went out to see what was out there that might be blooming. I was surprised to see the hibiscus had put out one last bloom.  As a whole it had stopped blooming weeks ago. It grows up against the house so it was protected from the numerous frosted mornings.

A Stolen View........

One block over from our house we can look through the two houses and see this color. Behind that tree is a birch tree that has yet to change color. The whole development is built on stair steps and you can see that person's lot has a full story down to their backyard.

Sunday with Sunshine......

My neighbors trees at the old place has one tree out of two that is stating to change colors. I know when it is time to rake when thoe trees loose their leaves. The reason being that a lot of those leaves end up in our yard.

Leaning Tree....

Taking photos with the cell phone can be a challenge. I was in such a hurry to get a shot of the river birch that I didn't notice how crooked the shot was. The trees are slow to turn this fall.

Good Morning....

Friday morning sunrise shown is on a very cold morning.  It will warm up later today. Light and fluffy clouds are good but it is to be another windy day.

Fall Mums and Roses....

One has to wait all summer to see the results of the blooms of a mum. I really like the colors and our grass is so green this time of the year to make them look redder. .

Blooming Rose....

It is middle October and the store has to clear out these things so they can put more Christmas decorations out.  A "knock out" rose put on a big low price sale that I can not refuse. I am going to leave it out to acclimate in our cold temperatures.

Phlox.......

The last of the phlox, rescued from the zinnia and iris garden. I trimmed them off as the cold weather continues. I like that there is just one more flower ready to come in for our enjoyment.

Mourning Dove.....

The three doves immediately started to feed when I put out a new batch of seed. The next day this one was up on the deck looking for scattered seed from the hanging bird feeder.

The Sun Sleeps In....

As the earth keeps tilting our daily world also changes. Getting up at 7:30 in the morning means the sun is just coming up. In a week or so we will be getting up in the dark, or we will sleep in longer. Getting up with the sun seems like a good idea.

Saturday Shots......

A hard freeze means bringing in the last of the zinnias. The leaves of the zinnias are n ow brown today.

I had to divide the flowers into two bouquets.  In the background you can see the zinnia patch. The hard freeze was in the middle of the night and it was warming up early morning.

Morning View......

The morning view is a sky full of clouds and a subtle glow. I don't think we will see sun though as we are sitting at 37 degrees F. this morning. The snow is suppose to start this evening.

Showy Red....

The front yard roses are still putting out blooms. I don't think trimming any of them back now will cause any more new buds.  I will probably start to clean them up in late October.

Out from the Clouds.......

The moon started its new phases but I never saw them. It has been many days with lots of clouds.  I remember seeing people on facebook sharing the sliver of a moon but I did not see that.  I looked out last night while dealing with the flag and looked up seeing it from the front steps.

As a photographer, I crop things spontaneously. I look at this photo and I wonder why I crop it this way.  I guess I want a special effect with it lopsided and the missing part of the moon is emphasized by the wider black space. I am probably not right about this but I just crop and go.

Monarch Beauty...

I had two monarchs in the zinnia patch.  They were very hungry and they wanted to eat with their wings wide open. I am glad I made the casual glance out there or I would have missed them. The last one that visited out there was pretty much beat up but these two seem to be in perfect shape. They have a long way to go so it is good I have the flowers that they like.

A New Day.

It is starting to clear and we will warm up. It does look like a fall day with the sun coming up later and the gray blue sky.

Wet and Wild.......

The rains keep punching on the morning glories. The temps are cool enough for them to bloom all day and they are still in bloom in late afternoon.

Stairs.........

The deck and the stairs add such a new set of views of the world at the back of the house. I still need  to treat the wood to preserve from the rain and winter weather.

The basement view from the double windows is changed but the light coming in is strill good. The wheel barrow gets some protection from the stairs.  I think that I can get a potting bench out there some where under the deck.

Staged Shot.....

The last gladolia of summer is on display.  I didn't leave ti there but brought it into the house for a vase.

Big and Small...

The miniature daffodils are so petite compared to the normal sized daffodil. I don't think I have ever brought the small ones inside be...
