Mystery plant....
This plant was on the property when I moved here in 1976. As a younger person, I actually try to eradicate it as it looked so bad in hot dry weather. It isn't easy to get rid of fortunately and I now have planted it everywhere. I saw a show with P.Allen Smith talking about a plant that looked like this and he said he had a hard time finding it. I see that it could be related to many different possible plants but I just don't know what it is.

Hi Larry, I believe that is Creeping Bellflower or Campanula rapunculoides. It is an old plant, hard to get rid of, also called European Bellflower. The key to this plant..is it only flowers on one side of the stem. It is considered a Wildflower..I like it:)
Larry, Gertrude Jekyll said that the Creeping Bell Flower was the most insidious weed known to man. I put a small clump in a few years ago. It took me three years to get rid of it. I ended up sifting the dirt where it was planted with hard cloth.
Well, I can of made my peace with it as it looks good in one area of my yard where nothing grows. I keep it back by mowing it. I remember trying to take it out back in 1979 and it did stay at bay, with spreading junipers crowding it out. But the junipers got so big and ugly I took them out. Now they are creeping back. I know that I won't be giving any of it to my friends.
