With snow on the ground I would have thought that they would have been visiting more than just once. I am certain somewhere in the neighborhood they are serving straight dark sunflower seeds and they are there selecting seeds to eat.

How beautiful, Larry! I once saw a male cardinal here in the Montreal area...however, before I managed to get a photo of him he flew away. Thank you so much for sharing.
Birds can be so unpredictable. I top up the feeders every day, some days they eat as if they're ravenous and others days they don't bother ... regardless of the weather.
