He seems to be posing for the shot as he picks seeds out of the feeder. It is a red bellied woodpecker and I have not seen him for some time.
The white on black markings are so strong while the red on its belly is not sot bright. The cap is so striking that one can't miss him when he shows up at the feeder.

We have two Red Bellied Woodpeckers who enjoy our blocks of suet every day and now and then they will go to one of the bird feeders. I so enjoy watching them, especially each morning as I do up the breakfast dishes.
