Snow drift sculpture........

We have had over 14 inches of snow and the wind is hitting 25 mph to 47 mph.  It is a constant roaring of the wind out there.  Structures help to create great sculptural forms.  It is going to be 2 degrees F., -17 degrees C.,  tonight as our low.  If you believe in global warming,  I suggest you check the cold air that is blowing down onto us from up at the Arctic Zone.  We will be warming up to 18 degrees F. , - 8 C. tomorrow.
Our low last night was a -4 degrees F. , -20 C.

Here is another view of the drift with the snow in the foreground that is piled on top of the porch railing which is at least a foot high.
Tomorrow the state of Iowa will also be closed.  I will get out and take more pictures as I think the wind will be gone and I can go out and really see the frosty world.

Will it be like this all winter?

Well, I remember one year when it snowed and ice upped on Halloween and the snow wasn't gone until early March. We can sometimes not reach above freezing for a month at a time. We have had a few warm winters, but it always balances out sometime in the winter with extreme cold. We have storms like this at least every three years and I really haven't seen much change since I was young.
We receive all our winter weather from the Canadians and the Arctic beyond. Believe it or not the Great Lakes affect the weather fronts that swing in front, or west of them.

Brrrrrrr!
By comparison, it looks like we got off easy here in Minneapolis. It's still bitter-cold. If my feet weren't already numb, I'd think the snowdrifts were much more beautiful!

Keep warm... and keep that blowing snow away from your lenses!

Year after year we hear about the global warming. On last winter, over here we got snow and a couple of week very very cold ans snow got ice.
No snow yet here. no cold weather but mild and wet till today. After it will winter.

We got about a foot of snow, not too much drifting yet but the wind is suppose to pick up today.
I look forward to seeing more pictures.

You had me reaching for my Atlas to check how far north you were. But you don't seem to be that far north - but still all that snow. Great pictures it has provided - if that is any consolation to you.

The cold air of the north comes down when we have a low, and the water, moisture from the gulf meets it in the middle and it just churns away. This one actually came from California way, which was the moisture from the Pacific Ocean.
