Doves Digging for Seed.

Small doves continue to be a mystery.  I really don't have a book to tell me what they are.  They could be young ringnecks as they develop that neck marking as they mature.  I can not believe they hatch this spring as they wasn't enough time for that to happen.

I really like this photo but the head of the one is chopped off by the camera man.  The color of their head feathers is so great to see.

Hi Larry, I checked my Audubon book and they look like mourning doves in color and markings but the small size is a mystery. The book says 12" but I guess that is from beak to tip of tail feathers. Is that possible or are they very small bird? They appear to be adults because young ones have more/different markings. I especially like the top picture!

What a lovely photograph. We get collared doves here occasionally, always in a pair. Such gentle faithful creatures, unlike the feral pigeons which strut around, making their presence felt! Thank you for the Picasa advice, Larry. I shall investigate ...
