After the Storms.....

The day after the three hour storm.  We had people in our town get 10 inches of rain.  We had people to the south of us a few blocks that received 7.5 inches.  The streets in all surrounding areas, including Des Moines, have been overcome with flooded rivers and streams. Our Lake Saylorville gained two and a half feet of water in its already overfilled capacity.  That overflow spillway is going to be used as the water all drains down to it.

I mowed the backyard yesterday morning in almost 80 degree weather and the results was a very dry, dead grass area.  All that rain washed away the loose grass and it is green. I am assuming the water drained to the back fence area and traveled down the hill. It was too bad to get out and see how the water was being handled.

The clay-like soil drains off the water quickly. The daylily still glistens from the continuous rains.

Sad to hear about the flooding in your area. Your back yard is very attractive. I hope you two are enjoying this Sunday and that the storms have passed.
