Keeping History Alive....

When I first bought my house in Woodward, Iowa this rose grew along the two sides of the kitchen addition. That was in 1976.  It was an old house, 1908, and the kitchen was like a summer kitchen. When we added on an art gallery off the side of the kitchen, the rose on the west side stayed alive.  I dug a batch of it as a crazy impulse and brought it to the new place.  It had a single cane sticking out of the ground for two years and then here it is.  It took time to root but it is now is an established rose on a 13 year old property in a large modern city.  I did find a couple of possible names for it in research on the net.  They have an old house rosebushes site to look for the oldies. You can see that it is putting out more canes and a lot of leaves.  That was a happy rescue when I first saw it on Monday.
