Ditch Lily.......

We call them ditch lilies because that is where they can be seen growing during the summer.  An old farmstead can be cleared but the old field lilies around the house stay.  In Iowa, the construction of roads helped to spread them, as a grater could cut into a farm yard and spread them up and down the ditch.  They spread naturally also so they can be seen everywhere. At a cemetery near Xenia, Iowa, where there was an old mining town, extinct. it had lilies growing up and down the ditch opposite of the cemetery. Some house was probably torn down from the miners and all that is left is the lily. This lily is from that source, which I moved to my old place and now have it growing at my new place.
