It is a hand carved creche from Bethlehem, Israel. It is made from old olive wood tree branches and the style of each figure is stylized somewhat abstractly. The different wood pieces dry out and they each are turning to different colors. The Christ Child is stylized into a the shape of a cross. The star shape in front is a replica of the one that they have on the floor of the stable at the actual site believed to be the birthplace.
