Chairs......

I have more chairs than I need.  I keep them because they are antique. This is a common country chair from the early 1900s. I see one leg is wrapped to keep it together. It is stained walnut but a lot of them were natural pine wood color or were painted. A lot of chairs like this just wore out and their backs worked loose and fell off.  I knew a couple who had two chairs like this with no backs at their kitchen table. It could be slid in and out without a problem under the kitchen table and out of the way. This was probably the cheapest of chairs to buy when you lived at that time.

This chair really is of the same era as the one above.  It is a luxury rocker made from oak with its hoofed feet. It originally was covered with a blackish brown varnish and had black leather seat and back. It belonged to our sons great grandfather who owned a furniture store in northern Iowa. I replaced the seat and back forty plus years ago and would like to do it again with a different fabric. The chair was rescued from a damp, dark basement back in the 1970s.  It doesn't fit in with our newer furniture upstairs but it is a good accent piece in the downstairs living areal.
