The male house finch flashes redder feathers in the spring to attract his mate. Either he hasn't found his mate or she is already nesting. Normally the pair always come to the feeder together.

Iowa wild rose is the state flower. I keep finding evidence of our hard freeze on different plants as they mature. The freeze messed up...
