These are also known as naked ladies. The bulbs put up a foliage in spring and then after the foliage has died down it shoots up stalks and buds. I normally have over a dozen stalks but with the drought I was lucky to have one single stalk. Maybe the rest will pop up the next few days.

Ah, the dreadful effects of age. I suspect I got as much pleasure from viewing these naked ladies as I would from the other sort. Sad, isn't it.
Lovely surprise you got there, Larry! I do hope the rest appear in the next few days so you know you didn't lose them to the drought.
Our neighbors Naked Ladies didn't do as well this year as last year. My flower bed looks very nasty, but not realizing we were going to have a drought this year, I didn't water the flower bed either, so I guess I am to blame more than the weather.
