Green leaves......Sycamore tree

My neighbor lady, two houses over, across the street, has two very large trees. They are a white barked tree and their leaves are very large. I researched it and found out that it is a sycamore. It drops it's leaves while they are green.

When I walk the dog, it is neat to look down and see this green carpet. There are a few yellow maple leaves mixed in with them, but the predominately green color is kind of a nice change to all the red and yellow.

Of course, there is a story. When the tornado hit our town a few years ago, debris was dropped everywhere. In this first tree, hung one of these very large trusses, that came from a garage that had been demolished. It was dropped from the sky and hung up there in the top of the tree. Another one, same size of truss, lay on the sidewalk across the street, next to the corner of our property. I didn't get to see them remove it but I am sure they had to have some one crawl up there and cut the branch that was holding it up there. I tried to lift, foolishly, the one on the sidewalk and it took a crane or many men to pick that up, they are heavy, made up of many two by four boards.

I didn't know that about the Sycamore tree...

You brought back memories of "tornado warnings" while we lived in Iowa as a kid, got to come home from school.. never had one come through though. We would go swim in the neighbors pool, so I guess we did not take it to serious :)

I don't know why the sycamore is dropping it's green leaves as I think they usually do change to some color, but those green leaves are coming from that tree.

This year...we got such a hard frost that some of the leaves fell off, green, before they turned color. It was strange. It is the first time I have ever noticed this. On some of the trees, the frost turned the leaves brown overnight and they literally got crispy and fell off like rain the next day too...way before they had changed to orange or red or yellow. It was really a weird autumn experience.

What a lovely blanket of leaves, it resembles a tapestry.
The thought of a tornado is extremely scary to me, as I'm sure it is to many people. I've been through a couple of hurricanes and that was enough!

Lovely photos Larry and much like the ones I took this morning. There are loads of sycamore's on the country path where I walk the dogs. They drop their leaves at all stages of colour including green. I think they are one of the lovelist to snap especially when back lit :)

How interesting. I live surrounded by sycamore trees and never realised that they dropped their leaves when they were still green. I have often seen the green leaves mixed in with all the yellow and brown leaves on the floor but never made the connection.

The first two shots would make wonderful 1000 piece puzzles, Larry.
